Beginning Equipment List:
Here is my list of necessary equipment to begin playing the saxophone. These items can be found online or at your local music store.
- Alto Saxophone - recommended models: Yamaha YAS-23, Yamaha YAS-200AD, Selmer AS300
- Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece: Selmer S80 C*
- Alto saxophone ligature: metal with two screws
- Reeds: Vandoren Traditional (blue box) strength 2.5
- Neckstrap: Alto saxophone size
- Reedguard: for up to 4 reeds
- Manuscript (music paper) notebook

Woodwind Brasswind - A terrific online store that sells reeds, mouthpieces, instruments and just about anything else you would need to play an instrument.
Weiner Music - another great online store extended to all members of the band family.
Eble Music - Eble is a wonderful store for purchasing sheet music. They have a very wide selection of contest pieces, etudes and various other music.
Sheet Music Plus - Sheet Music Plus is another sheet music store that has a very nice selection.
Online Tools:
Metronome Online - a metronome is a must-have for any musician seeking to improve. This website provides a free, easy-to-use metronome to make sure you are playing in time.
MusicTheory.Net - a site where anyone can learn about the ins and outs of music. There are plenty of free lessons and exercises concerning scales, rhythm, harmony, etc. I highly recommend this for students AND parents who wish to learn more about music.
Performance Calendars:
CU College of Music - an events calendar for performance presented by the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music. They have fantastic performances happening all the time.
Jazz in Boulder - provides a weekly calendar of jazz performances around Boulder.
Chautauqua Auditorium - gives a listing of the performance season at the Chautauqua Auditorium. A number of very famous acts come by here.
